What to Expect on Fireworks Night

Fireworks Night Overview

Guests will launch around sunset for a calm paddle over the reef. Once the fireworks begin, you’ll have front-row seats right on the water — a unique perspective of the Waikīkī skyline under the stars.

6:45 PM — Meet your guide at Fort DeRussy Beach Park (Paoa Pl), near the public restrooms. Quick safety briefing, Q&A, and gear setup.

7:00 PM — Launch into golden hour. Paddle freely along Waikīkī’s coastline and take in the views of Lēʻahi (Diamond Head).

7:45 PM — Your guide helps position everyone to enjoy Waikīkī’s famous fireworks from the water — front row and crowd-free.

8:30–9:00 PM — Paddle back under the stars, glowing lights still beneath you.

We launch from Fort DeRussy Beach, near the Diamond Head side of the park. You’ll receive clear instructions and GPS pin upon booking.

The total experience is about 2 hours, including setup, safety briefing, and water time but guests may come ashore as often as they want during the 2-hour window.

We recommend bringing a towel, reef-safe sunscreen, and water or something to hydrate.

Our team provides the kayaks, paddles, life vests (optional for adults) , waterproof phone cases, and dry bags for your belongings.

No need — your booking includes our custom clear kayaks, paddles, PFDs, and all necessary equipment.

SAFETY CONSIDERATIONS

Yes! Many of our guests are first-time paddlers. We only operate when the water and weather are calm. Our kayaks are stable, and your CKA customer success manager is just a call or text away if you have an emergency.

We provide life jackets (PFDs), glow lights, reflective bands, and safety whistles for all night paddles.

No experience is required, however, some basic fitness level is recommended to ensure safety and maximize guest enjoyment. The fireworks route is very beginner-friendly and a member of our team will provide their phone number to all guests. It is company policy that active guides always remain on-call and be ready to provide assistance should any unlikely problems arise.

During Fireworks Night, a CKA safety lead is always on phone standby to respond quickly in the unlikely event of an emergency.

Safety always comes first at CKA. Fortunately, weather in Waikīkī is generally mild and consistent year-round, with calm waters that make for smooth paddling. Still, our team of seasoned islanders and experienced watermen and waterwomen monitor detailed weather and wind forecasts daily — before, during, and throughout all tours.

We stay alert for any sudden or unexpected changes in conditions, and if we ever determine it’s not safe to be on the water, we’ll reschedule your paddle or provide a full refund. Your safety and enjoyment are our highest priorities.

FIREWORKS FROM WATER

During your self-guided paddle, you’ll position your kayak safely offshore and just east of the Fort DeRussy Beach pier by Port Waikiki Cruises. From this vantage you'll experience a stunning, unobstructed view of the Waikīkī fireworks without compromising your or your group's safety.

The display launches from the Duke's Lagoon area — perfectly visible from the calm waters near Fort DeRussy Beach. It’s the ultimate front-row seat for an unforgettable Waikīkī fireworks kayak experience.

Absolutely! Every clear kayak rental includes a complimentary waterproof phone case with a cinchable lanyard that loops comfortably around your neck to keep your device secure while paddling. Guests are encouraged to capture photos and videos — the reflections of the fireworks on the calm, glassy water make for truly Instagram-worthy moments during your Waikīkī fireworks kayak experience.

Please note that while we provide waterproof protection, Clear Kayak Adventures is not responsible for lost or damaged electronics or personal items, so we recommend double-checking all seals and keeping your phone tethered at all times.

And don’t forget — we encourage all guests to tag us on social media (@clearkayakadventures) for a chance to be featured! Every month, we give away a special prize to the most-voted photo or video from our community of paddlers.

For safety reasons and FAA compliance, drones are not permitted during your self-guided clear kayak tour. The area near Waikīkī and Fort DeRussy Beach falls under restricted airspace, and we prioritize the safety of all paddlers and spectators.

Most guests simply drift or gently paddle in place while watching the fireworks. The water inside the reef near Waikīkī is calm and shallow, ideal for relaxing as the sky lights up. We recommend keeping a respectful distance from other paddlers to preserve the peaceful, crowd-free atmosphere of this eco-friendly ocean adventure.

You might! Guests often spot tropical reef fish or even a honu (Hawaiian sea turtle) gliding below their transparent kayaks, even at night and especially when illuminated with our colorful LED lights.

The soft glow of lights combined with the fireworks reflecting on the surface creates a surreal underwater view that often attracts certain types of marine animals like, cephalopods, cnidarians, crustaceans, and even sea turtles (though these are less common at night) — another reason this self-guided experience is unlike any other in Hawaiʻi.

RETURNING TO SHORE FOR CHECKOUT

At the end of your paddle, you’ll follow the same calm, easy route back toward Fort DeRussy Beach. Our reflective lights and the beach markers make it simple to find your way safely. Note: Even though this is a self-guided kayak tour, our onshore crew generally keeps visual contact during all scheduled paddle times.

Yes! Once you’re back on shore, our friendly crew assists with all kayak handling, rinsing, and gear checks. You can regroup and decide on your next move and we'll take care of the rest.

Once all guests are accounted for, our team will stick around for a bit to clean up. We're always happy to talk story and answer any questions — whether about Oʻahu’s ecosystems, our commitment to protecting them, or local tips on the best restaurants, hikes, surf spots, and more.

Transportation isn’t included in your booking, but there’s convenient parking, rideshare, and drop-off access near Fort DeRussy Beach and Ala Moana Beach Park. We recommend arriving early to find a spot, as the area can be lively on Fireworks Night.

Depending on the night’s conditions and availability, we occasionally allow guests to extend their self-guided night paddle for an additional fee. Please ask our staff in advance if you’d like extra time to enjoy the peaceful nighttime ocean experience.

We love seeing your perspective! Guests are encouraged to tag us on social media — @clearkayakadventures— and share their best shots or videos from their Waikīkī fireworks kayak adventure.

Each month, we feature standout paddlers and give away a special prize to the most-loved photo or video from our community. Share your moments — your experience might just inspire the next guest to paddle out under the stars.
