Our Story:
Clear Kayak Adventures is a locally owned, family-operated transparent kayak rental company based in Waikīkī. What started as a grassroots idea from a lifelong ocean lover has grown into a purpose-driven business rooted in Hawaiian values, environmental responsibility, and genuine connection to place and people.
Today, the company is run by its original founder, Mitchell Miller, with support from his mother, Kimberly, who plays an active role in daily operations. Together, our ʻohana works hard to bring a personal touch to every experience — creating a space where exploration, education, and mālama come together, one paddle at a time.
Our Why & Our Roots
Clear Kayak Adventures began as a simple idea: offer people a way to connect with Hawaiʻi’s coastline that is slow, self-directed, and deeply respectful of the land and sea.
Our founder, Mitchell, grew up with a deep love for the ocean and an even deeper frustration with the over-commercialization of Hawaiʻi’s outdoor experiences. Rather than follow the path of noisy motors and big-group tours, he launched CKA with a different intention — to keep things small, rooted in respect, and focused on letting the ocean speak for itself.
From the beginning, his mother Kimberly has played an essential role — bringing her own passion for nature, education, and mālama ʻāina into every part of the business. Whether it’s answering the phone, helping customers launch, or organizing local cleanups, she’s the heart of the operation.
Today, we still operate as a small ʻohana-run business — and we plan to keep it that way. Our goal isn’t to scale fast or go corporate. It’s to offer something true to Hawaiʻi, something that gives more than it takes, and something that stays with you long after the paddle ends.
What We Offer
Clear Views, Clean Intentions
At Clear Kayak Adventures, we offer self-guided clear kayak rentals designed to connect guests with the shoreline of Oʻahu in a way that’s fun, immersive, and meaningful.
Our fully transparent kayaks give you an unobstructed view straight into the reef, so you’re not just paddling on the water — you’re gliding with it. Watch reef fish dart below, honu (sea turtles) cruise past, and sunlight ripple across coral just inches beneath you. It’s simple, surreal, and truly magical.
At CKA, we hold deep respect for Native Hawaiian culture and operate with a commitment to mālama ʻāina (care for the land) and mālama i ke kai (care for the ocean). Every outing is grounded in both respect and joy — because we believe those things go hand in hand.
Our guests come to Hawaiʻi to explore, play, and connect — and we make sure that happens in a way that’s low-impact, culturally aware, and rooted in aloha.
We aim to create experiences that leave no trace and give more than they take — not just for the sake of the environment, but for the generations who will come after us.
There are no loud motors, no rigid schedules, and no crowds — just you and your ʻohana, your crystal-clear kayak, and an unrivaled view into the natural rhythm of the ocean.
Whether you’re a first-time paddler or a water-loving local, we invite you to slow down, tune in, and enjoy an experience that stays with you — long after the sand has been rinsed from your feet.
Meet Our Founder: Mitchell Miller
“I didn’t set out to start a kayak company. I set out to reconnect with the things that matter — nature, community, simplicity — and this business became a vehicle to do just that.”
A Life in the Water — A Business with Purpose
Mitchell Miller grew up in Detroit, Michigan — or as he fondly calls it, “the ol’ rusty mitten.” With the Great Lakes as his backyard and a family full of fishermen, he spent his youth in and around the water: swimming, boating, and casting lines with his dad, grandfather, and cousins. What started as weekend adventures became something deeper — a lifelong reverence for nature and the belief that water connects us all.
That early love for the outdoors shaped the values Clear Kayak Adventures is built on:
Slow down. Pay attention. Leave it better than you found it.
Mitchell’s path wasn’t linear. He served on city council in South Central LA, working with HUD and community orgs on food security and sustainability. He later helped launch a digital marketing agency, worked with major brands in tech and healthcare, and eventually became a project manager in the largest nonprofit health system in the country — all before the ocean pulled him back.
After a transformative winter surfing Oʻahu’s North Shore, and working as a deckhand with Blue Planet Adventures and SUPDog, the North Shore’s premier SUP rental provider and Dog-Surf School, he discovered his purpose. He also realized that he wasn’t out to scale super fast and go corporate, or carelessly add more noise to Hawaiʻi’s already busy coastlines.
He wanted, instead, to create something modest but meaningful. Something with purpose. But most of all something rooted in the culture and community of O’ahu.
That seed germinated and grew and eventually became Clear Kayak Adventures — a transparent kayak rental company offering self-guided experiences that are quiet, low-impact, and deeply respectful of place. Every paddle is an invitation to reconnect with the ocean, to learn, and to leave inspired.
Because a clear kayak isn’t just a vessel — It’s a window into the ocean’s story.
One paddle, one guest, one reef at a time.

Eco-Education Through Adventure
At CKA, we believe the most powerful learning happens through experience — especially when it’s fun, hands-on, and rooted in connection. We also believe that true respect for the ocean, the environment, and all living things begins with that sense of connection.
That’s why we aim to go beyond the paddle in everything we do.
From Hawaiʻi’s cherished and protected honu (sea turtles) to vibrant iʻa (reef fish) and the fragile beauty of kōpaʻa (coral reefs), our team is passionate about sharing the story of Hawaiʻi’s marine ecosystems — and how each of us can do our part to help protect them.
We incorporate fun and engaging marine education into every rental, turning each paddle into a chance to better understand and care for the kaiola — the living ocean.
We’re also building deeper educational resources for school programs, corporate teams, and travelers who seek more meaning, connection, and intention in their adventures.
Our Promise
Whether you’re visiting Hawaiʻi for the first time, a kamaʻāina or kanaka looking to experience the ocean in a new way, a family searching for something unique to do together, a couple celebrating a milestone, or a hui of friends just wanting to vibe on the water — we’re here to make sure your time with us is safe, welcoming, and unforgettable.
At CKA, we promise to always offer a personal touch — to remember your name, celebrate with you, and share stories from our lives here in Hawaiʻi. And we’re dedicated enough to make an impact that reaches far beyond the shoreline — through conservation, cultural awareness, and a deep commitment to mālama ʻāina and mālama i ke kai.
At the heart of it all, we’re here to build unforgettable moments — the kind of experiences that stay with you long after the water has dried and the sunscreen’s worn off.
Mahalo nui loa for supporting a local, family-run business rooted in aloha, mālama, and community.
We can’t wait to welcome you to the water. 🌊
